That was by design ;) There are some on the right who do strongly support the pro-science side on this question (for instance John Derbyshire at the National Review) but unfortunately the evangelical voting block is such a useful one that most republicans will pander to them (whether they believe in ID or not).

I think it's ironic that the magical theory is on the left in this picture... and it's the political right that seems to think it's a good idea.
