Yet again, we, the editorial team at the Sneer Review, present an exclusive.
One of our intrepid reporters has managed to get hold of a copy of the actual lecture notes left behind on the stage after the recent and highly contentious Gaines Symposium debate at the University of Kentucky between evolutionary biologist Professor Jerry Coyne and Catholic theologian John Haught.
Despite Professor Coyne's performance at the debate bringing unity and agreement amongst all strands of the New Atheist community, the notes themselves reveal just how close Professor Haught was to bringing up the one topic that more than any other, threatens to destroy the atheist community!
Bill Maher on politics, divisiveness, and the holidays
-
Here’s Bill Maher’s 8½-minute comedy/news video from yesterday’s “Real
Time”; the plaint is that people are going to let politics screw up the
holidays. No...

Huh?
Ah, elevatorgate.
John Haught used the argument that there are multiple layers of understanding. Science is verified through evidence from multiple sources of evidence and peer review. Religion is verified through revelation that brings an understanding of the hidden meaning in scripture. I am reasonably confident that I can rely on the validity of the tests applied to science to move toward true understanding but I'm not so sure about religion. How can religion determine the difference between revelation and delusion?
"How can religion determine the difference between revelation and delusion?"
Simple:
If I want to believe it, it is true. If I don't want to believe it, it is a delusion.
Or as the late Robert Anton Wilson formulated it: "What the Thinker thinks, the Prover proves."
Reminds me of Hancock's Half Hour!

Mother: Would you like a cup of tea, Jimmy?
Jim: Tea? Tea?! Is that your answer to it all? Tea? The panacea of the middle class! The answer to all the problems facing mankind today? Have a cup of tea, Jim! You both make me sick. You're dead, both of you. You're both mentally dead. Your souls are drowned in tea. Your minds are clogged up with tea bags. You're like two slop basins swimming around in a sea of tea! Just like this country, the whole rotten system, stained in a tea of apathy!
Father: What's he mean, Mum?
Mother: I don't think he wants a cup of tea. Would you like a cup of coffee, then?
Jim: Coffee? Coffee?! Is that your only alternative to the stagnant mess that's slowly choking you, a cup of coffee?
Mother: No. We've got some cocoa, I think.
That sounds more like Take It From Here...
I do not get the joke. Can anyone explain it to me?
Ok, don't bother, I give up.
Damien, if I explain the joke it won't be funny. All I will say is that it's related to last Summer's atheist schism and the question of whether to interpret "a cup of coffee" literally or as a metaphor.
Almost people like to write what he said, But I like to listen what they said, Your post is very good. Thanks!
